Exploring Teaching

If you are interested in the course, Exploring Teaching as a Next Career, which provides information about teaching and a field placement with a mentor teacher, contact your local community college.  If the course is not yet offered by that college, please contact registration and tell them you are interested; Then, contact the Director, Sheila Allen at sheila@ccteach.org.

Special Topics EDUC 261, is offered at Harford Community College. This is an online course that requires a 5-day field placement in a school (5 days do NOT have to be contiguous).  For more information, contact Dr. Sheila Allen.

In Columbia, MD, Howard Community College’s exploratory course is EDUC 925. For more information, contact Professor Fran Kroll.

In Annapolis, Anne Arundel Community College, contact Dr. Colleen Eisenbeiser.

In Montgomery County, contact Debra Poese at Montgomery College.

Prince George’s Community College also offers an exploratory course for prospective career changers.  For more information, contact Professor Teresa Bridger.

Once you are registered for a course, you receive instructions on acquiring a background check and fingerprinting.  These are required of all individuals working in pre-K through grade 12 schools.
